Electrical Design PV/WIND/BESS Engineer M/F – Montpellier
Montpellier, France ● Permanent Contract ● Technical Design
At Qair, we have chosen a flexible organization that promotes versatility among our employees and allows the company to constantly adapt to market needs.
Our corporate culture is inspired by the entrepreneurial spirit that has driven Qair since its inception. Far from traditional hierarchical management, we encourage initiative and autonomy, fostering an environment conducive to innovation and creativity.
We are an independent renewable energy company. Our 800 employees operate and build over 1.7 GW of assets in the 20 countries where we are present and are developing a pipeline of more than 35 GW.
Our culture, based on trust and mutual respect, allows our employees to thrive professionally and actively contribute to the company's success. By unleashing the potential of each individual, we boost collective performance and equip ourselves to meet the challenges of a constantly evolving market.
You will join Qair's internal Engineering Department, a team of engineers specializing in the technical and economic design and optimization of photovoltaic plants, BESS, and wind farms, working closely with the Procurement and Construction project management teams.
The Engineering Department leads detailed design and technical study validation during the financing, procurement, and construction phases of projects. Depending on the geography, engineering is carried out in-house or by external firms under our coordination.
As an Electrical Design PV/WIND/BESS Engineer, you will lead and optimize the electrical systems design of our renewable energy projects (photovoltaic plants with BESS storage 80%, wind farms 20%).
The position is based in Montpellier, with occasional international travel required.
You are looking for a stimulating and empowering challenge, where boldness and innovation are rewarded? Join us and unleash your potential!
Main Tasks
As an Electrical Design PV/WIND/BESS Engineer, your main responsibilities will include:
- Carry out detailed electrical design of photovoltaic plants: DC/AC, High and Medium Voltage architecture component selection, inverter sizing, cable calculations, single-line diagrams, grid constraint integration;
- Lead and validate electrical design studies, conducted in-house in coordination with the electrical engineer from the Procurement and Construction department, or outsourced to external engineering firms;
- Contribute to solar sizing studies (PVsyst, yield simulations) to ensure techno-economic optimization of projects and support LCOE reduction;
- Monitor technological and competitive developments in PV, BESS, and wind equipment;
- Maintain technical relationships with suppliers to evaluate new solutions, track product developments, and obtain cost estimates;
- Conduct techno-economic benchmarks to support design choices and project optimization;
- Integrate energy storage considerations (BESS) into facility design;
- Draft calculation notes, technical specification (CCTP) inputs, and technical files required for financing, procurement, and construction phases;
- Ensure consistency between design, site constraints, and contractual requirements;
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards (IEC, NFC, EN, local grid codes);
- Coordinate technically with development teams, local teams, and Qair’s international partners;
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of methods and standards within the internal Engineering Department.
Skills Required
The following skills are essential for the role:
- At least 5 years of technical expertise in electrical engineering and electrotechnics applied to renewable energy;
- In-depth knowledge of photovoltaic and wind projects (design, sizing, optimization);
- Proficiency in electrical infrastructure;
- Proficiency in PV design and simulation software (PVsyst, PVcase, AutoCAD, Lise PV, Caneco or equivalent);
- Advanced Excel (techno-economic modelling);
- Techno-economic approach: ability to challenge solutions through cost/benefit analysis and contribute to preliminary costing;
- Supplier relations: experience in technical and commercial negotiation with suppliers (components, EPC contractors, etc.);
- Market awareness: sensitivity to technological trends (e.g., new generations of inverters, batteries) and their impact on profitability;
- Professional English and French: ability to read technical documentation and interact with international teams.
The following skills may help you stand out among applicants:
- Knowledge of energy storage systems (BESS) and their integration into renewable energy projects;
- Experience in an engineering or EPC design office;
- Critical thinking and ability to technically challenge proposed solutions;
- Autonomy and initiative in project delivery;
- Proficiency in another language spoken in countries where Qair operates;
- Ability to work in an international or multi-country environment.
This role may not be suitable for you if you have no interest in internationally-scoped energy projects, or if you prefer a working environment focused exclusively on wind energy with no photovoltaic dimension.
Benefits
- Annual gross fixed salary: €40,000 – €47,000
- 10% annual performance bonus;
- Profit-sharing bonus;
- Option to purchase Qair shares;
- Meal vouchers worth €9.50;
