Fuchsstadt, 26 April 2023 – Qair, with the support of Bavaria Minister-President Markus Söder, connected to the grid this Saturday a new wind farm in Fuchsstadt, Lower Franconia. At the ceremonial commissioning of the wind turbines, the Bavarian Prime Minister was joined by other representatives of local politics – including the mayor of Fuchsstadt René Gerner and District Administrator Thomas Bold from Bad Kissingen – as well as numerous citizens of the community of Fuchsstadt. In a welcoming speech Mr. Söder also emphasized the importance of wind power in Bavaria before he personally started the wind turbines.
With the completion of this wind farm, Qair is sending an important signal for renewable energies in the region. After the shutdown of the last nuclear power plants in Germany and in view of the advancing climate change, every new wind turbine is an important step for the country’s energy transition. The three new wind turbines of 239 meters high with a hub at 164 meters have a total capacity of 13.5 MW and can thus supply approx. 9,000 households with renewable energy and avoid the emission of more than 11,500 tonnes of CO2 per year.
Successful cooperation between local project developer and municipality for a sustainable future
“We are grateful for the good cooperation with the project team, which closely coordinated with us on all decisions, and are pleased with the contribution our region will make to the energy transition with this wind farm“, said René Gerner, The mayor of Fuchsstadt.
“This project is an important milestone for Qair in Germany and for renewable energies in Bavaria“, added Heike von der Heyden, Managing Director Qair Germany. “The wind farm in Fuchsstadt is one of the first to be connected to the grid in Bavaria this year and will supply the region with green electricity in the long term. The positive support from the community and politicians shows the current importance of wind power. As an independent power producer headquartered in Munich, we are therefore looking forward to many more projects, especially in southern Germany, and are proud to be able to contribute to sustainable energy production in Germany.“
The wind farm, which consists of three Nordex N149 4.5-megawatt wind turbines, was initially developed by Green City AG and acquired by infrastructure investor Reichmuth & Co at the development stage.
“The Fuchsstadt wind farm already looks back on an eventful history at the time of its commissioning. We are delighted that the wind farm can now go live and would like to thank Qair Germany for the excellent cooperation“, said Christian Ilgner, Head of Energy at Reichmuth & Co.
The project development team and the operational management company of Green City AG were transferred to Qair Deutschland on 1 June 2022, which has now further developed the project to the point of operation and will take over the operational management of the park in the long term. With the takeover of parts of Green City last year, Qair not only gained an experienced project development and operations management team in Germany, but also took over several solar and wind projects as well as project approaches that are due for completion and implementation, especially this year and next.
