Morocco: Qair Secures 178 MW in Wind and Solar Projects to Power Industrial Growth

Paris & Casablanca, 29 April, 2025 – Qair, an independent renewable energy company with operations across Africa, has secured key authorizations for its Tetouan wind and Tiznit solar projects in Morocco. With a combined output of 505 GWh per year, the two assets will supply clean and reliable energy to Moroccan industries, significantly reducing CO₂ emissions and reinforcing the country’s energy independence.

The Tetouan wind farm, expected to be operational in 2029, will generate 390 GWh annually, while the Tiznit solar project, to be commissioned in late 2027, will produce 115 GWh per year.

Driving Morocco’s Low-Carbon Transition

Both projects were approved by the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development under Law 13-09, a key pillar of Morocco’s strategy to open its renewable sector to private investment. The recent introduction of a tariff framework for medium-voltage grid access marks a turning point, creating a more transparent and predictable environment for industrial off-take of renewable power.

Morocco’s regulatory clarity and ambitious energy vision are opening real opportunities for independent power producers like Qair to deliver long-term value,” says Wahba Zniber, Managing Director of Qair Maroc. “With these large-scale authorizations, we are entering a new chapter — building on a decade of experience in self-consumption and now scaling to serve broader industrial needs.

Local Impact, Continental Vision

The Tetouan and Tiznit projects will help avoid over 334,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, while generating economic and social benefits at the regional level — from local employment and infrastructure upgrades to supplier opportunities and energy cost stability for manufacturers.

As Morocco accelerates toward its target of 52% renewable energy by 2030, Qair is playing an active role in strengthening the local energy mix, while also supporting the country’s industrial competitiveness and decarbonization strategy.

Beyond Morocco, Qair is advancing its renewable energy initiatives across the African continent. In Tunisia, the company has secured agreements for two major solar photovoltaic projects totaling 298 MW in El Khobna and Gafsa. These projects are expected to generate approximately 1,000 GWh of electricity annually, contributing about 5% to Tunisia’s national electricity production and avoiding around 500,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.

In Mauritius, the Group is preparing to commence construction on a 100 MWp solar photovoltaic project with 256 MWh of energy storage, a significant step towards the nation’s goal of achieving 60% renewable energy by 2030.

In Chad, Qair is developing two 15 MWp solar farms in Gassi and Lamadji, complemented by a 8 MWh battery energy storage system. These projects aim to produce 61 GWh of electricity annually, addressing the country’s energy deficit and contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions by an estimated 49,000 tonnes per year.

Through these initiatives, Qair reinforces its vision of becoming a key enabler of the energy transition at both national and continental scales, driving sustainable growth through clean, reliable, and locally sourced power.
