Bucharest, Romania – December 20, 2024 – Independent renewable energy company Qair secures a tariff in Romania’s recent Contracts for Difference (CFD) for renewable energy. This achievement applies to the first 50 MW phase of a planned 100 MW wind project in the Constanța region, marking a key milestone as Qair begins operations in the country.
A skilled local team with diverse projects
Led by Catalin Hendre, Qair’s Bucharest-based team has achieved critical progress, including securing land rights, obtaining permits, and reserving grid capacity—essential foundations for successful renewable energy development.
Qair’s Romanian activities are primarily focused on wind and solar energy, with plans to develop battery storage solutions. Drawing on experience in markets such as the United Kingdom, Poland, France, and Mauritius, Qair aims to bring proven expertise to Romania’s energy landscape.
“We are pleased to receive this award, which recognizes the significant efforts and dedication of our local team. This achievement is a key step in the development of our activities in Romania and highlights our ability to adapt to new markets. It also confirms Qair’s ambition to become a leading renewable energy player in Eastern Europe and to expand our global footprint with innovative, sustainable projects says Charles Lhermitte, President of Qair Renewables (Qair’s Romanian subsidiary) and COO at Qair Group.
“This initial success confirms the quality of our projects and reinforces Qair’s commitment to support the energy transition in Romania. In addition to our wind and solar portfolio, we intent to leverage our Group’s expertise in storage solutions to strengthen the Romanian grid and maximize the integration of renewable energies“ adds Catalin Hendre, Country Manager at Qair Renewables.
A strategic vision for Romania
The Constanța region, known for its strong wind energy potential, is a strategic location for Qair’s project development plans. This initial success in Romania reflects not only the company’s commitment to investing in sustainable technologies but also its ability to meet the stringent requirements of competitive tenders.
Securing a tariff for the first phase of this wind project marks an important step in establishing Qair as a long-term player in Romania’s renewable energy sector. Combining technological innovation, international expertise, and a talented local team, Qair is committed to accelerating Romania’s energy transition while meeting competitive tender requirements.
