Wrocław, July 11, 2023 – Independent renewable energy producer Qair announces the conclusion of a 15-year renewable cPPA (corporate Power Purchase Agreement) with Żabka Polska Sp. z o.o. The contract covers the supply of a total of nearly 1.7 TWh of energy from a wind farm and a large-scale solar farm. The deal positions Qair as a key partner for large corporations seeking a strategic approach to electricity purchasing while reducing their environmental impact.
Żabka Polska is a 9,000 sales outlets Polish retail group covering Poland and the Czech Republic. One of the country’s leading convenience retailers, the chain operates 500 stores in Warsaw and more than 300 in the Tricity area of Gdańsk, Sopot and Gdynia.
This renewable PPA will contribute to Żabka Group’s decarbonisation ambition to achieve net neutrality in its scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2025, reducing its outlets emissions by 70%. To achieve this, the retailer plans on transitioning the entire franchise network to renewable energy.
“We want to cooperate with leaders who have the energy security of their businesses in mind and are going to change the country’s energy landscape with us. Cooperation with the Żabka Group is the best proof that companies are more and more willing to look for solutions that make the business environment more stable and see cPPAs as a sound foundation for growth” says Krzysztof Wojtysiak, CEO at Qair Polska.
“Recent months have been characterised by significant changeability of electricity costs. In the Żabka Group, based on in-depth analyses conducted in previous years, we outlined and implemented several projects aimed at reducing electricity consumption. We are investing, for example, in renewable energy sources to stabilise costs and to boost our independence from the market situation. Signing a 15-year contract with Qair Polska for the purchase of electricity from a wind farm and from a large-scale solar farm is another step toward improving the efficiency of the entire Żabka network and reducing our emissions” adds Marta Wrochna-Łastowska, Member of the Management Board, Financial Strategy Area, Żabka Group.
“For another year in a row, 100% of electricity that we consumed for our own purposes came from renewable energy sources. We are extending this approach to the more than 9,500 Żabka shops operated by our franchisees throughout Poland. More than 57% of the electricity consumed in them comes from renewable sources, that is, generated by in-house solar energy systems or covered by guarantees of origin. We believe that contracts such as the one signed with Qair Polska will make it possible, along with our steps to reduce electricity consumption in shops, to achieve a sense of security and stability in the face of rising electricity prices” says Adam Manikowski, Vice President of the Żabka Group, Managing Director at Żabka Polska.
In the last 6 months Qair Polska has signed cPPAs with a volume close to 4 TWh of green energy from 2023 to 2038. In 2024, the amount of electricity sold by Qair Polska under cPPAs will exceed 300 GWh.
