Paris, September 18, 2024 – Qair, an independent renewable energy company and Trapil, a leading refined products pipeline networks operator announce today the signature of a partnership agreement to cooperate on e-molecule distribution projects, in France and internationally.
With the aim of supporting industries in their ambitious decarbonization strategies, Qair is diversifying its energy offer to complement the supply of renewable electricity with electro-molecules[1] (e-molecules) such as hydrogen, e-saf or ammonia.
Decarbonize air and sea transport: an international challenge
Convinced that e-molecules will play an essential role in the energy transition, particularly in the decarbonization of air and sea transport, Qair is developing e-molecule production projects in the regions where the Group operates renewable energy assets, notably Brazil, France and Iceland, with the intention of offering a competitive product to European clients.
In France, Qair is currently building the country’s largest renewable hydrogen production unit under construction, and is developing e-saf production projects, notably in partnership with Airbus in the Occitanie region. The energy company is also positioned with another e-fuel production project on the Axe Seine, the river basin which includes the ports of Le Havre, Rouen and Paris.
Trapil’s networks are strategically positioned along key energy transportation corridors, establishing Trapil as the leading French transporter of liquid energy products. Its primary pipeline network connects the port of Le Havre to the ports of Rouen and Paris, as well as to France’s two major airports, Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Paris-Orly.
With over 70 years of experience, Trapil is also a seasoned international player in the development of local and transportation pipelines for a large scale of liquid and gas products.
In this context, Trapil and Qair are committed to cooperating to optimize and decarbonize the entire value chain of e-molecule production and distribution.
“We are delighted to join forces with Trapil, the historical and largest pipeline operator in Europe. Qair shares with Trapil the same vision of the future of e-molecules, and we are aiming to capitalize on Trapil’s expertise to be ready to deliver competitive products to our clients.” says Louis Blanchard, CEO at Qair.
“Trapil is incredibly proud to launch this ambitious cooperation in e-fuels with a reknown firm such as Qair. This agreement is perfectly in line with our long term strategy. Together with Qair, we agreed on the need for unprecedented innovation and collaboration from key actors of the energy transition. I am convinced that, in France and abroad, we can become an active part of the solution to the world’s energy challenge” added Xavier Folch, General Manager at Trapil.
[1] E-molecules refers to molecules produced using renewable electricity through advanced chemical processes and that can be used in the industrial and transport sectors to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Among e-molecules, e-SAF is a sustainable aviation fuel produced through the synthesis of green hydrogen and carbon dioxide while green ammonia is produced from the combination of nitrogen and dihydrogen.
About Trapil
Trapil is the historic operator of the hydrocarbon pipeline networks in France, meeting the country’s massive supply needs while guaranteeing a high level of safety and reliability. The 4,700 km of pipelines operated by Trapil form an interconnected network that transports more than 50% of France’s fuel consumption.Drawing on its experience and the cutting-edge techniques it has developed, Trapil also offers a wide range of services in many fields related to pipeline operation: pipeline and depot engineering, operational consultancy, management of the integrity and ageing of industrial infrastructures, etc.
