Renewable hydrogen: Hyd'Occ (Qair Group and AREC Occitanie) signs major supply agreement with Plug
Paris, July 20, 2023 – Independent renewable energy producer Qair announces the signing of a deal for the sale of hydrogen produced through water electrolysis with Plug, a leading provider of comprehensive hydrogen solutions for the global green hydrogen economy.
The hydrogen supplied under the sales contract will be produced by Hyd’Occ, the renewable hydrogen production plant developed by Qair with Arec Occitanie, for which the foundation stone was laid on June 29, 2023.
The contract between Hyd’Occ and Plug shall take effect on the date of the hydrogen production unit’s commissioning, scheduled for the end of 2024. The contract, with an initial 10-year term, demonstrates the long-term commitment of both parties to hydrogen as a key energy solution. This deal also marks an important step in the roll-out of Hyd’Occ’s first 20 MW stage, which will eventually produce 6,000 tonnes of renewable hydrogen a year for a total capacity of 50 MW.
Under this agreement, Hyd’Occ undertakes to supply Plug with a volume of hydrogen sold in compressed form. This hydrogen supply will enable Plug to meet its customers’ demand and support their decarbonisation projects.
“We’re convinced that hydrogen is a promising energy carrier and an alternative to fossil fuels,” says Guirec Dufour, Managing Director of Qair France. That’s why this partnership with Plug enables us to increase the scope of our activities and illustrates our shared desire to promote the adoption of hydrogen in various industrial sectors and in transport“.
“The sale of our hydrogen-utilizing applications requires rapid and competitive access to renewable hydrogen molecules. Therefore, Plug is actively engaged in producing this molecule quickly in Europe and purchasing the necessary hydrogen from partners like Qair to support the ecosystems we endorse. We are delighted to sign this offtake agreement with Qair and AREC, enabling Plug to access green hydrogen molecules in the Occitanie region” adds Benjamin Haycraft, Executive Vice President of the EMEA region at Plug.
